Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a right wrist injury in a 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. Here’s what you need to know:
- Coach Zac Taylor called Burrow’s injury a sprained wrist.
- The quarterback appeared to be in pain after throwing a second-quarter touchdown to running back Joe Mixon. He attempted to throw passes on the sideline but was unable to and jogged to the locker room.
- Burrow was 11-of-17 passing for 101 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game. Backup quarterback Jake Browning finished 8-of-14 passing for 68 yards and a touchdown.
- Burrow hasn’t missed a game since Week 18 of the 2021 season.
What it means to lose Burrow
The worst-case scenario unfolded for the Bengals. As long as they have Burrow they have a chance and the immediacy with which Burrow grabbed at his right hand following the touchdown pass to Mixon was a bad sign. It was only made worse when he attempted to throw on the sideline twice and couldn’t do it, instead crouching over in pain following the attempt.
Burrow has battled injuries all year, now finally recovered from the calf, this is the last thing he or Cincinnati needs entering a critical stretch of the season with back-to-back AFC North games. — Paul Dehner Jr., Bengals beat writer

What to expect from Browning
Browning won the backup quarterback job over Trevor Siemian in training camp, but it was far from pretty for long stretches. The Bengals liked the development of Browning, a former undrafted free agent from Washington.
Still, he’s never played in a regular-season game and the idea of him being thrown to the fire in this spot is far from what Cincinnati could be prepared for. Browning has good mobility and that might be a trait Zac Taylor leans into. — Dehner
