The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating after deputies fired at a woman in Rancho Cordova on Monday. It all started on Augibi Way when the sheriff’s office said a person called that someone was trying to break into their home with a butcher knife. Deputies spotted the person suspected of breaking in parked in a driveway along Malaga Way and La Loma Drive, roughly a mile away from Augibi Way.Shortly afterward, the sheriff’s office said two deputies fired their guns at the woman, but it has not been clarified yet if she was actually hit. The woman then drove away, prompting a short chase, the sheriff’s office said. The pursuit ended in front of the Sacramento Regional Transit light rail station by Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field.Deputies said the woman eventually surrendered, the sheriff’s office said.A security guard who witnessed the end of the chase told KCRA 3 that several deputies surrounded the car with guns drawn. When the woman got out of her car, the guard said he noticed a wound and bleeding on the woman’s arm.The sheriff’s office also acknowledged the woman’s wound, but deputies are unsure if the wound is from gunfire, shrapnel or her knife.Deputies said the woman is in the hospital and is expected to survive her injury. She will be booked into the Sacramento County jail once she is medically cleared.Investigators believe the woman may live in the neighborhood and that the house she tried breaking into might have been her neighbor.Details were not released as to what led to the shooting. What appeared to be at least two bullet holes could be seen on a Dodge Ram.No deputies were injured, the sheriff’s office said. Both deputies who fired their guns will be on administrative leave, which is protocol anytime an officer is part of a shooting.Eastbound traffic on Folsom Boulevard near Mather Field Road was shut down because of the investigation, but it has since reopened.
