Emily in Paris star Ashley Park has candidly revealed that she nearly died after going into ‘critical septic shock’ that ‘infected her organs.’
The 32-year-old took to Instagram to lay bare her terrifying health scare which began with tonsillitis during a vacation in Thailand for New Year.
She said she was left in ‘excruciating pain’ and battled ‘so much confusion’ before going into the intensive care unit.
The on-screen star, who plays Mindy Chen on the Netflix show, said she is ‘still in the throes of recovery’ but is ‘safely on the other side of the worst.’
Ashley opened up about her recent struggles to her 2.8 million Instagram followers as she shared startling photos from her hospital bed.
She wrote: ‘As I sit here processing and recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word I can think of is grateful.
‘While on holiday in December into New Years, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs.
‘I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told.’
The actress credited boyfriend Paul Forman, 29, for being ‘unconditionally’ by her side.
She added: ‘You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know.
‘I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.’
Ashely went on to thank ‘every doctor and ICU nurse who worked tirelessly’ before concluding: ‘I hesitated to share what’s been happening as I’m still in the throes of recovery… but I now know I’m safely on the other side of the worst.
‘Thanks for reading this. I’ m sorry for being so absent recently to so much and to people in my life. I love you all. I’m healing and I promise I’m gonna be okay.’
Gushing further still over Paul, the Beef star took to her Instagram stories to add: ‘I love you.
‘I can’t believe we spend the first weeks of our 2024 in the ICU and hospitals. I’m the luckiest for having you Paul… by my side through the painful and scary parts of life as well as the joy.’
Her post was quickly flooded with comments of support from the likes of Mindy Kaling, Natasha Bedingfield and Glen Powell as well as her Emily In Paris co-stars, including Lily Collins.
She wrote: ‘I can hardly look at these without crying. I love you sister and I’m forever grateful you’re on the other side of this and for Paul for your incredibly huge heart and for being there every step of the way. I cannot wait to hug you both.’
Paul has also since shared a snap of the pair on his own account alongside a simple caption that read: ‘By your side, no matter what.’
Ashley had previously posted a slew of snaps from her sun-soaked vacation in Phuket, Thailand, before it took its terrifying turn.
She had posed playfully with a brass sculpture before embarking on a cooking class to create an authentic Pad Thai.
Ashley has previously spoken out about other health scares she has overcome, including overcoming cancer when she was a teenager.
She was just 15 when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and she recovered after almost a year in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy.
After being told what she could and couldn’t do during her treatment she was inspired to change the way she approached health and wellness.
The Broadway star told Shape magazine: ‘Once cancer physically left my body, I made it my mission to not let it affect my life.
‘I didn’t want it to define me. People were so worried about me, and I became the person that was like, “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I am going to go after what I want and just do it.”‘
