Metro Boomin has shed light on his and Future‘s creative process, saying he makes the Freebandz boss rap over every single beat he creates for him.

In the comments section of a clip posted to Instagram in which Zaytoven says he doesn’t let artists skip beats during studio sessions, Metro revealed he has a similar way of working.

“Facts this how me and Pluto record,” the multi-platinum producer wrote. “If I made it idc you gotta at least try.”

Metro Boomin and Future have a long and successful creative relationship going back over a decade to the release of “Karate Chop” in 2013.

Since then, Metro has produced some of Hendrix’s biggest hits including “Mask Off,” “Low Life” and “Wicked,” as well as Drake collaborations “Where Ya At” and “Jumpman.”

Despite not having produced a record for any of Future’s albums since 2017’s Hndrxx, the duo have repeatedly teased a collaborative project.

In September, Metro posted a picture of himself in the studio with Future along with the caption: “AOTY [album of the year] loading [three battery emojis].”

Metro previously said the album could be expected before the end of 2023, though they are obviously running out of time with just over four weeks left in the year.

The producer did admit to Apple Music’s Ebro Darden that the delay in the project was due to their determination to get it perfect: “I know how important this album from both of us is going to be. With our track record, it’s important that we deliver and not miss at all. Me and him working together is easy ’cause we’ve been doing it for 10-plus years.”

Future and Metro performed together earlier in the year in Atlanta, with the producer later reflecting on the moment and their relationship.

He said: “You know, Pluto, that’s my brother. We’ve been at it for a long time. This whole superhero moment, it’s like the beginning of our phase two.

‘We haven’t had a song out since ‘Mask Off,’ they’ve been on our heads. With this, and then the whole State Farm thing, it’s starting to slowly put people on notice: we crankin’ that shit back up too.”

Metro Boomin is nominated for two awards at the 2024 Grammys, including Producer of the Year and Best Rap Album for Heroes & Villains.
