Newly surfaced images of Superman: Legacy‘s leading actor, David Corenswet, have again sparked comparisons to his predecessor.
Corenswet attended The American Playwrighting Foundation’s special benefit event on Nov. 5, 2023. According to the event’s website, plays by WGA writers were performed by stars that included Corenswet, Kevin Corrigan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, K. Todd Freeman, Alfie Fuller, Tavi Gevinson, Michael Godere, Hari Nef, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Tramell Tillman, and more, with the award created to support the striking WGA writers. In pictures by photographer Annie Watt, Corenswet’s new bulked look was captured at the event, with the star drawing widespread comparisons to former Superman and The Witcher star, Henry Cavill.
Superman: Legacy will be the foundation for the DCU and it may be the perfect movie to revitalize the dwindling superhero box office.
Corenswet’s transformation has been rapid, with the star far slimmer only one year ago. It’s not the first time comparisons between him and Cavill have been made, with a report revealing that the link had made its way all up to Corenswet’s employers, DC Studios, which reportedly had no issue with it. Some fans saw Corenswet’s rapid bulk as a testament to his effort to prepare for the role. Ant-Man‘s Paul Rudd recently spoke about how “horrible” these training regiments can be when he revealed his reward for the day was often sparkling water. Harry Potter fans will also recall being similarly stunned after Daniel Radcliffe’s body transformation for his Miracle Workers TV series.
Superman: Legacy’s Plot Remains Unclear
Superman: Legacy is nearing its production start date with rumors continuing to swirl about the movie’s plot. Director James Gunn recently shot down a controversial rumor that the film was heading to the Middle East, and just this week, fans got a range of casting information, with Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher being one of the latest additions.
Jon Cryer, who was praised for his Lex Luthor performance on Supergirl, has shared his thoughts on Nicholas Hoult taking on the role.
Warner Bros. Pictures is producing Superman: Legacy, which is officially described as: “Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.” Gunn will direct from his screenplay based on characters from DC. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Superman: Legacy lands in theaters worldwide on July 11, 2025.
