VIJAT MOHINDR*
Dolly Parton‘s rock era is in full swing, and the country music icon is sliding into it with an effortless ease. Rockstar, her long-awaited full-length rock album, will arrive on Nov. 17 and takes on defining records from giants within the genre — but she’s a force within it, too. Anything you throw at her, she can handle with grace and glamour, which is exactly what she does on the forthcoming album bonus track “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.” Watch the exclusive snippet below.
Parton’s take on the Pat Benatar classic was recorded at her Nashville studio, where she bulldozed through the record in a cheetah print and leather corset top set. When she spits, “Put up your dukes and let’s get down to it,” her fists rise up in the booth. Try her if you want to — her long, hot pink nails won’t hold her back.
Live airings from the Nashville studio recording sessions with run on HSN later today, at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., as the network pre-sells merchandise and their version of the record in the lead-up to the album’s November release.
Parton first previewed Rockstar in May with the original recording “World on Fire,” which she premiered at the 2023 ACM Awards. Across the album, the dual Country Music and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member teams up with the likes of Stevie Nicks, Steve Perry, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Harry, Linda Perry, Elton John, Brandi Carlile, and more. Benatar himself appears on the album alongside Neil Giraldo to perform “Heartbreaker.”
“I am very honored and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time, and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure,” Parton shared in a statement earlier this year. “I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!”
